Jason Kruszka was born and raised in Wisconsin. He moved to Florida in 2006 to attend the Florida State
University College of Law. During law school he interned at Innocence Project of Florida, and upon
graduation in 2009, joined the Public Defender’s office for the 20 th Judicial Circuit in Fort Myers. In his six
years at the office he represented thousands of clients and had 33 jury trials, defending against charges
ranging from misdemeanors to punishable-by-life felonies. In 2016, Mr. Kruszka began working at
Capital Collateral Regional Counsel in Fort Lauderdale, representing death-sentenced clients in post-
conviction hearings in state and federal courts. After nine years of criminal defense work, Mr. Kruszka
left the practice of law and now serves as Chief of Staff for Broward County Commissioner Tim Ryan.
